Games
Ixian Corp currently has a side project to offer old games to the public. After
reading all this page, please make your selection of the game category from the
menu to the left.
What is this?
In this section you will find the old games that you have grown with, or have
loved when you were younger or, perhaps, haven't ever got the chance to see and
play.
The downloads presented here are mostly games that were built for the MS-DOS
platform, most pre-dating Windows 95, some even incompatible with it anymore.
Is this legal? What must I know?
The distribution of these games take into consideration certain important
aspects:
- Is the game "abandonware
" ? If the game is abandonware, it can be hosted here. If it is not, and a
copyright holder has specifically denied permissions to distribute, the game
will not appear.
- Is the game "freeware" ? If the game is freeware, it can be hosted without any
problem. If it is not, restrictions may apply, and therefore we have to check
before including.
- Is the game "shareware" ? In that case, Ixian Corp will check what part of the
game can be included.
- Did the copyright expire? In that case, the game can be distributed.
What the downloader must know is that the distribution of such games is tacitly
allowed. However, should any copyright holder specifically and rightfully claim
for any game to be removed, we will remove it, and we ask that you do the same.
Is there anything I need?
Yes, one thing, and one thing only: an emulator (since you will be unable to
play the vast majority of these games on current computers without such).
For best emulation, we recommend DOSBox,
since it is free and easy-to-use. Please refer to
their website for support, questions and
other information, as well as download (we have a cached version of DOSBox
available for download
here).
We have included DOSBox in distribution packages for your convenience.
